MAN is a network of people who listen to mountains: recordists, researchers and developers working on how high places sound. If that is your interest too, there is room for you here, whatever your nationality or background.
No portfolio? That is fine. A few lines about who you are are enough to start. Recordings, papers or code are welcome but never required.

/Field recording
Join recording sessions and expeditions in alpine terrain, from planning the route to setting up microphones, geophones and hydrophones on site.
/Recordings
Bring your own mountain and glacier recordings for analysis, archiving or release. The first step above is the standard for each one: where, with what recorder, at what sample rate, how long.
/Research
Work with us on acoustics, signal processing and machine listening, or on the open-source tools behind our field reports. The methods shown so far centre on species identification. Later work extends them to the analysis of long field recordings in general, from finding the parts of a take worth keeping to measuring the acoustics of mountain environments.

/Local recording assistant
We occasionally look for local recording assistants to support field recordings and related sessions. If you are based in or near Los Angeles (or elsewhere in California and keen to scout recording sites such as the Palisade Glacier Trail) and would like to help with on-site recording logistics and coordination, write to us.
